Our story
How It All Began
Alliance Donne was born in 2019 through the shared vision of two Italian-Montreal women – Anita Aloisio and Giuliana Fumagalli. Though they came from different paths and didn’t know each other, they saw a common need: women from the Italian-Québec community needed a space to connect, support one another, and expand their networks.
Turning Vision Into Action
In June 2020, Alliance Donne officially became a non-profit organization. From the start, we organized cocktail-networking evenings and exchange events to bring together women from all walks of life to celebrate and share their contributions to Québec society.
Milestones & Impact
- 2021 – We served as consultants for the exhibition Montréal à l’italienne, helping highlight the presence and historical contributions of Italian-heritage women to Montréal’s social, cultural, and economic fabric.
- June 2021 – We supported a motion at Montréal City Council to recognize June as the official Italian Heritage Month affirming the importance of Italian-heritage identity and culture.
- Ongoing Project: “Les Cucitrici / The Seamstresses” – We are currently working on a large-scale archival and documentary project to document and showcase the contributions of Italian-immigrant women to Montréal’s textile sector. The project is expected to complete in 2026.
Why We Exist – Our Purpose
Over decades, individuals of Italian origin have made significant social, cultural, and economic contributions to Québec and Canada. Yet, the stories, achievements, and experiences of women in the Italian-Québec community have often remained undocumented or under-recognized. Alliance Donne was created to change that to give visibility to those women, recognize their impact, and build a community grounded in solidarity, heritage, and empowerment.
